Intel AppUp MeeGo World Tour Stops at Gangplank

Intel AppUp EventOn the evening of Thursday February 3rd, I had the pleasure of attending the Intel AppUp Application Lab: MeeGo Series event as the world tour made a stop in Chandler, AZ. The event was hosted at Gangplank, a community hub for collaboration and entrepreneurship, and was deliciously catered by Chandler’s own San Tan Brewing Company.

For a full recap of the event, check out my guest post over at the Gangplank Blog.

My experience and thoughts on the MeeGo operating system itself can be found in my article over at MyCE.com.

One interesting turn to note since the Gangplank MeeGo event took place is the fact that Nokia has jumped ship from its concentration on Intel and MeeGo in favor of partnering with Microsoft on their recently launched Windows Phone 7 OS. Despite that fact, Intel seems determined to keep their MeeGo efforts going.

“There are a lot of partners involved in MeeGo… it wasn’t just an Intel and Nokia effort — it really is an industry effort,” said Renee James, Intel’s software and services chief. “MeeGo is more of a viral community effort that’s going to go forward.”

Judging from my personal experience with the OS, Intel has a long way to go with MeeGo if they’re going to make good on their promise of smartphones and tablets launching before the end of 2011. That said, it appears that they have a good base on which to build and I wish them well in their efforts.
